Biography: Began his career in Vaudeville in Philadelphia. Frank continued performing through high school and then joined the Fire Department. His family wanted his to go to medical school but Frank decided to become an Undertaker and began performing for the mourners at wakes. This led to an offer to travel in a minstrel show. It was during this time that Frank developed his comedy routine. He was a huge hit on Broadway, working with greats like George M. Cohan. He was best known for his black face, but abandoned it after the war. He was also well known for his partying ways, drinking and carrying on with women even though he had a wife at home.
