In 1929, he directed his first film, "The Virginian" with Gary Cooper and they remained long time friends. He is most famous for directing "Gone with the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz". His career took somewhat of a downturn in the '40s, and most of his films, with the exception of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in 1941, neither were particularly successful.
