Biography: Sydney Greenstreet started his life as a tea planter but the drought caused him to go back to England and managed a brewery. He began acting on the side and debuted in 1902 in "Sherlock Holmes". He continued working as an actor in England and the US. His film debut, occurring when he was 62 years old and weighing nearly 300 pounds, was as Kasper Guttman in the classic The Maltese Falcon. For the next eight years, he would make 24 films but none as famous as his first. In 1949 he retired from films, and died four years later. He was 75.
